A little bit of Magic for a future Lord Mayor?

Peterborough-based Waldburg Equine Services, which provides the team of magnificent shire horses that draws the State Coach at the Lord Mayor’s Show in the City of London, have a cute new recruit - a baby foal named "Magic".

Friday 01 July 2011

Born on 14 June 2011, Magic weighed in at a healthy 80-100kg and is currently learning the ropes from proud mum Beatrice – the only shire mare to have ever been used in the Coach Team. Mum Beatrice and dad Monty met last June when Beatrice travelled to Cheshire to visit the Premium Shire Stallion. Ten months later little Magic was born, four weeks early.

The Lord Mayor’s Show, which has been running for almost 800 years, begins at Mansion House at 11am as 6,000 people take part in the three-mile long procession throug0h the City streets. The Lord Mayor travels in the 254-year-old State Coach to the Royal Courts of Justice – pulled by the six Peterborough shire horses – where he swears an oath of allegiance to the monarch, before returning to Mansion House. The day’s events conclude with a spectacular firework display at 5pm, on the Thames between Blackfriars and Waterloo bridges.

The Show’s Pageantmaster, Dominic Reid said:

“It’s of the utmost importance to us to have a steady team of horses for the Lord Mayor’s Coach – we haven’t had a bumpy ride yet. I hope that when Magic is old enough, she too can become a member of the team, which would make her the first horse of successive generations to pull the Gold State Coach.”
