Media are invited to attend the traditional early morning rehearsal for this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show, which welcomes Alderman David Lewis into position as the 680th Lord Mayor of the City of London.
The pre-dawn rehearsal through the streets of the Square Mile gives the Lord Mayor Elect his first chance to try out the gold State Coach – which celebrates its 250th birthday this year.
It will also be the first time for new coachman Alan Tillier and the six horses from Waldburg Shires in Peterborough to practice pulling the State Coach. Lorry driver Alan, from Cullompton in Devon, has put in months of painstaking work with the six shire horses to prepare for the day.
This is in advance of the official parade (Saturday 10th November) in which the Lord Mayor of the City of London travels from Mansion House via St Paul’s Cathedral to the Royal Courts of Justice to swear allegiance to the monarch.
Following the rehearsal there will be a photo/filming opportunity in Guildhall Yard with the glorious coach. Short interviews with Pageantmaster Dominic Reid (who organises the Show) and Lord Mayor Elect David Lewis can be arranged in advance.
DATE: Wednesday 7th November 2007
TIME: Rehearsal – 5am; photo call at 9am
