Santa Claus will be travelling from Finnish Lapland for his first official visit to the United Kingdom next month.
On Saturday 11 November, Santa and his helpers will take part in the historic Lord Mayor’s Show when by over half a million spectators and millions more on television will watch him travel through the streets of London on his sleigh.
The spectacular float is one of 66 joining the procession this year, which follows the traditional 1.7 mile route from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice.
The 15-metre long float was designed in Helsinki and took three weeks to build. It will be shipped to London especially for the procession. In keeping with Finnish tradition, the designers, Markus Friskberg and Ville Tervonen have used natural materials where possible, including real trees and objects from Finnish forests.
Said Santa Claus: “I am just thrilled about my visit to London. Taking part in the parade is a great joy and honour. I very much look forward to meeting all my friends, young and old and specially all the children at the hospital. This visit is a wonderful way to start the Christmas Season. See you soon…”
During his trip to the UK, Santa will make a private visit to children at Great Ormond St Hospital. Please note that this will not be a media event.
